Did you know that you can gain development skills without spending a small fortune on a degree? Or that you can learn how to run an agile IT team before doing so at work? If you have goals to grow your project management career, there’s an option you might not think of at first.

Conferences are a great way to grow your network and knowledge of project management. There’s just one question: Which conferences are relevant for you?

A Google search for “project management conferences” gives 816,000 results. Generous as this is, you don’t have time to investigate them all. On top of that, this search might exclude some conferences that could help you grow your skillset.

Rather than searching solely for project management conferences, consider some that are more specific. If you’re a project manager in a non-technical field, the term “DevOps” might not mean much to you. However, there’s much to learn that will help your work.

What is DevOps?

DevOps references a change in IT culture that promotes partnership between the software operations and development teams.

By Gartner’s own definition, DevOps combines aspects of the Lean and Agile methodologies to help operations and development teams ship work quickly and collaborate more effectively. So, you can’t separate DevOps from Agile— which close to three in four organizations report using.

Both methodologies have influenced business for some time now. Likewise, project managers have shared how DevOps improved their delivery. In the future, these disciplines won’t just intermix more often – in some cases, they might even become one.

Even if you don’t work within development or operations, Gartner predicts that DevOps will play a key role in project management. Its ultimate goal is to help IT teams communicate and ship more work at a faster rate. If that sounds familiar, it’s because Agile project management is very much the same.
